Native Council of Nova Scotia Breaks Ground on Indigenous Employment & Training Facility in Truro

May 23, 2024

NationTalk: Todays groundbreaking marks a long awaited move towards a Indigenous Employment & Training Facility owned by the Native Council of Nova Scotia owned which enables the NCNS Aboriginal Peoples Employment and Training Commission to hold inhouse training to Indigenous participants at a central location.

We are pleased that the NCNS will be able to offer our participants a safe, culturally appropriate employment & training facility that is in the HUB of Nova Scotia.

APTEC is the employment and training division for the Native Council of Nova Scotia. It was established early on to provide employment and training services to the rural, urban, non-status and off-reserve Indigenous Peoples in Nova Scotia.

In 1999, APTEC expanded its services that included funds to directly sponsor Indigenous individuals for training and employment interventions.

APTEC offers the target group a range of employment and training services with the goal to obtain and maintain long term sustainable employment. This is completed through assessment, employment counselling, and development of a mutually agreed upon return to work action plan, and where determined, sponsorship support.

Since its inception in 1974, the Native Council of Nova Scotia has worked to improve the social, educational and employment opportunities for rural , urban, non -status and off-reserve Indigenous Peoples of Nova Scotia, who continue to reside on their traditional territory, off-reserve throughout Nova Scotia.  The Employment & Training Facility will move us toward our goal of assisting Indigenous Peoples to Move Forward to a Better Future.
